This Month's Topic: Going on the Cable Car at Monte Baldo

If you plan on going to Malcesine, make sure you go on the cable car (called the "Funivia Malcesine") up Monte Baldo. It's a great way to enjoy the views of the lake; at the top the panaramic views are truly spectacular! We always go in the morning during the hot weather, otherwise the haze that comes with the heat can affect the views.
Cable cars leave from piazza Marconi 1, Malcesine. The running times are: Early April-middle Sept: 0800-1900, middle Sept-middle Oct: 0800-1800, middle Oct-early Nov: 0800-1700.

Tickets prices are: 14 Euro return, 9 Euro single. And cash only! The cable car climbs from 100 m to 1750 m in around 15 minutes with a break in the middle. On the upper section the cars revolve slowly to give a spectacular panorama of the lake and its surrounding mountains.

There are lots of lovely walks at the top with plenty of paths that wind their way around the peaks. There are some breathtaking views down to both the east and west. In spring and summer there is a profusion of beautiful wild flowers. You might see eagles, chamois and marmots too! Maps of paths are available from the Malcesine tourist information office, though sometimes the paths they mark are less than clear.

It’s also possible to rent bikes at the bottom cable car station, carry them to the top and cycle down. The walk down takes around two and a half hours from the top, and around an hour from the halfway station.
After going on the cable car, we usually spend the rest of the day at Malcesine, it's a wonderful town! Check out what you can do and see there on our Malcesine page.
