Which lake Garda town for travelling with toddler?

Q. Can you please suggest a town on the east/south side that is recommended for kids. We do not want to stay in a theme park, we are travelling with grandparents and a 2yr old, so we are not interested in water sports. Ideally we want a town with a good beach, a promonade for strolling in the evenings, and eating near the water with a toddler. Of course a little bit of nightlife would also be nice....
all advise appreciated

A. If you want my opinion the town of Garda takes somes beating. It is in a great location, is big enough to have everything but is not over commercialized. On top of that it has a huge area of lake side restaurants, lots of little streets with no traffic and good beach areas. If you want a second option then I would look at Lazise. A charming town with loads of great back street shops and restaurants. It doesn't have so much lakeside eating or beach as Garda town, but it is very pretty and a good size. I think you would have a fantastic time in either place, but Garda sounds ideal for you. Have a wonderful trip!

Italians love children

Any town is a good place for families at Lake Garda. Maderno has one of the best beaches and a great promenade. There are a couple of restaurants on the water. The Hotel San Marco across the street from the lake has a lakeview and wonderful food. There is no nightlife here, but other towns are close by.
For everything you request...beach, lakeside dining and promenade...I would recommend Salo, Desenzano or Sirmione. These towns are larger.
Your toddler would like the little tram in Sirmione and all the great ice cream shops.
Staying in Desenzano would be less expensive and a quick boat ride or taxi to Sirmione. Lots of beautiful swans, too. All towns have some traffic to watch. So keep a sharp eye. Teaching some basic Italian words will last a lifetime at that age.
