Which Lake Garda Resort?

Q. We are visiting Lake Garda in June 2011. Which resort is most suitable, as we prefer quieter towns to relax but not too quiet were there would be no-one around? Also we need access to the ferries, as we would like to visit other towns.

Barry,

UK.

A. This is slightly tricky one, as the ferries tend to go to the most major towns and therefore are most likely to be busy. However there are smaller places where ferries go less frequently, such as Manerba or other towns which have small port areas (or are more spread out). Limone is also nice as the road doesn't go into the port area and yet there is plenty to see and a ferry. The Brenzone area is quieter, but you may need to get a bus to the nearest ferry point. Gargnano is a smaller town that does have a port, but doesn't usually get too busy.

What do other people think? Have you discovered a great spot for ferry access, that offers a quiet location, but still gives plenty to do??

Hope you can help Barry here as well!

All the best,

Marcus & Sylvia

Malcesine

Malcesine is well served by ferries. Busy daily but nice and relaxed in the evening with the occasional enterainment at the port-side, some modern some country some operatic??? Plenty to see, cable car up Monte Baldo, need to get threrfirst thing though or queue will be long. Pleasant strolls along lakeside and plenty of watering holes to sit and relax with a cappocino or beer etc..
