Do I need a car to get around Lake Garda?

Hi,

I am hoping to visit Lake Garda during the summer of 2015. Where is the best place to stay if I do not want to hire a car. I would like to be within walking distance of a nice town with restaurants and bars. We can use the ferry to get around the lake and don't mind having to use buses etc to go further a field.

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi James,

We would recommend staying on the south half of the lake, near one of the larger towns would give you the best travelling options without a car. This was you are nearer to the railway if you want to travel elsewhere and there are more options for buses. Desenzano or Peschiera give you the best options if you do want access rail, but Salo on the west, or Lazise or Garda on the east offer good access with more history and great lake front locations, as well as being amazing towns to walk around!

Have a great trip,
Marcus & Sylvia
